If you own a bail bonds company in 2019, you may be feeling a mixture of anger and confusion in regards to how to properly market your business online. All of the criminal justice reform talks have caused a lot of pressure to be put onto the bail bonds industry, and how this industry can advertise. It’s been a little over a year now since Google came out with this blog post describing why they are banning ads for bail bonds services.
In short, this is basically Google’s reasoning for banning bail bonds advertisers:
“Today, we’re announcing a new policy to prohibit ads that promote bail bond services from our platforms. Studies show that for-profit bail bond providers make most of their revenue from communities of color and low income neighborhoods when they are at their most vulnerable, including through opaque financing offers that can keep people in debt for months or years.“
“…the issue of bail bond reform has drawn support from a wide range of groups and organizations who have shared their work and perspectives with us…”
“Google’s new policy is a call to action for all those in the private sector who profit off of mass incarceration. It is time to say no more.”
The American Cash Bail System
Ok, so Google is trying to do the right thing or are they? They are trying to push legislation in the direction of eliminating the cash bail system by not allowing the bail bonds companies to advertise their services, but the problem is Google doesn’t make the laws! The truth of the matter is that the cash bail system is still how the United States currently operates, with the exception of a few states, but the vast majority of states still play the cash bail game.
If you are not really familiar with how the cash bail system works the best way to think of it is as like insurance that’s between the court and the defendant. The amount is set by a judge and is the determining factor if someone can afford to get out of jail or not. Legal experts Jessica Pishko and Jessica Brand claim that the bail system is the reason why about 500,000 people in America are locked up in jail for minor offenses – simply because they can’t afford it. Even the Koch brothers have been advocates of bail reform; although we’re still not convinced that they have some ownership in a private prison or two.
What This Means For Bail Bond Companies
This means that the entire bail bonds industry will be forced to rely solely on search engine optimization to determine what position they rank in on the search results page. Now this isn’t exactly a bad thing, but long gone are the days of easily paying Google Adwords to have your bail bonds business sitting on page one result one, and giving you an endless flow of customers. Don’t worry though, since you can still achieve that page one result one position with bail bonds SEO.
It would be my best guess that a majority of bail bondsman have no clue to what SEO or any form of search engine optimization is, and rightfully so since most bail bondsman are focusing on running their bail bonds business!
A well planned out SEO strategy will get your bail bonds company onto page one of the search results and stay there. The main difference is that SEO isn’t as quick of a process as paying Google to place your advertisement at the top of the page. However, after deploying a bail bonds SEO strategy for your website you will start seeing results in the first month. Depending on your area and the amount of competition that’s also doing SEO, it can take up to six months to see your site in the top three results, but again this is just a rough estimate and usually takes less than that.
The most important aspect of bail bond SEO is that your website is built properly and is already optimized for the search engines. This means that the pages load fast, the code is written for SEO, the keywords you want to rank for are in the right places, and SEO software is loaded onto your website. Once all this is in place, then it’s much easier to run the monthly SEO campaigns. You’re probably now thinking well how in the world do I get my site built with SEO in mind?
