This European country just started Digital Nomad visas
Portugal, a country known for its beautiful beaches, historic cities, and delicious cuisine, has just announced a new visa program aimed at attracting digital nomads. The Digital Nomad Visa, which was launched in March 2021, allows remote workers to live and work in Portugal for up to one year.
This new visa program comes as many countries around the world are looking for ways to attract remote workers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the rise of remote work, many people are now able to work from anywhere, and countries are seizing the opportunity to attract these workers to boost their economies.
Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa is open to remote workers from outside the European Union who work in digital-based professions, such as technology, marketing, design, and more. To be eligible for the visa, applicants must have an employment contract with a company based outside of Portugal, or be self-employed and work for clients outside of Portugal. They must also have a minimum monthly income of at least €1,070, which is the equivalent of the Portuguese minimum wage.
The visa will also provide access to Portugal’s healthcare system and allow digital nomads to bring their families with them to the country. In addition, the visa holders will be exempt from paying income tax in Portugal for any income earned outside of the country.
Portugal is an attractive destination for digital nomads due to its beautiful landscapes, rich history, and relatively low cost of living compared to other Western European countries. The country also offers a high quality of life, with a warm climate, friendly locals, and a thriving expat community.
With its new Digital Nomad Visa, Portugal is joining the ranks of other countries that have recently introduced similar programs, such as Estonia, Barbados, and Bermuda. These countries are all vying for the attention of remote workers who are seeking new and exciting places to live and work.
The launch of the Digital Nomad Visa is part of Portugal’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment and talent to the country. In recent years, Portugal has been actively promoting itself as a hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship, and the new visa program is just one of the many initiatives aimed at achieving this goal.
For remote workers who have been dreaming of living and working in Europe, Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa offers an exciting opportunity to do just that. With its stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, and welcoming atmosphere, Portugal is sure to be a top destination for digital nomads in the coming years.
