I Showed Up Way Too Early to This Garage Sale
There is a certain thrill that comes with waking up early on a Saturday morning and heading out to scour garage sales for hidden treasures. The promise of finding a vintage piece of furniture or a rare collectible for a bargain price is enough to get any thrifter out of bed before the crack of dawn.
However, sometimes in our eagerness to be the first ones there, we may end up showing up way too early to a garage sale. This was exactly the case for me on a recent weekend adventure.
I had seen a listing for a multi-family garage sale that promised a wide array of items, from clothing to household goods to electronics. Excited to see what treasures awaited me, I set my alarm for 6 am and arrived at the sale at 6:30 am, expecting to be one of the first ones there.
To my surprise, when I pulled up to the address, there was not a single soul in sight. The sun had barely started to rise, and the only sound was the chirping of birds in the trees. Feeling a bit awkward standing alone in front of a closed garage, I debated whether to wait it out or come back later.
In the end, I decided to stick it out and wait for the owners to set up. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through social media, trying to pass the time. As the minutes ticked by, I couldn’t help but feel a little silly for arriving so early. I wondered if the owners were still asleep, or if I had misread the start time on the listing.
After what felt like an eternity, I finally saw a car pull up to the driveway. The owners emerged, yawning and stretching as they began to unload boxes and set up tables. I approached them, feeling both relieved and a little embarrassed for being the only early bird at the sale.
As the garage sale got into full swing and more shoppers arrived, I realized that showing up early wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. I had first dibs on some of the items and was able to snag a few great deals before the crowds descended.
In the end, my early arrival paid off, and I left the garage sale with a few unique finds to add to my collection. While I may have felt a little out of place waiting alone in the early morning hours, the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of finding a hidden gem made it all worth it.
So, the next time you find yourself showing up way too early to a garage sale, don’t fret. You may end up being the first one to uncover a special treasure that would have been snatched up by someone else. Just remember to bring a book or some entertainment to pass the time while you wait for the sale to begin. Happy hunting!
