We recently launched a custom website for Impresa Legal Group – a law firm based in Arlington, Virginia. They wanted a more modern website that was easier to navigate from their current one. Our team worked closely with the firm’s partners to come up with a design that felt modern yet still maintained the look and feel of a traditional law practice website.
The challenge was that these “traditional law firm websites” are all usually built with old technology and look as if it was designed back in the 90’s. Basically all the information on these outdated looking law firm sites is bunched together on a static page, so you don’t have to scroll down the page to access other pieces of information.
I am sure if you have ever gone “lawyer shopping” before you’ve most likely ran into a couple of these traditional looking law firm websites. Even more interesting is that a majority of these outdated looking law firm sites belong to prestigious law firms.
It dawned on me that the more prestigious a law firm is, the more outdated their website looked. This is simply because they already have plenty of clients and continue to get more through referrals. Once a law firm is know as the best in the area, then there is no need to rely solely off marketing their law firm website to get new clients.
It makes sense for a pretty established law firm not caring about having the newest looking website, as many of these old-school attorneys share the same mantra of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” The kicker is that other lawyers looking to create a website for their new law firm will then want a similar style website that a prestigious law firm has, since people are used to law firm websites looking old and out dated.
So this basically sums up the challenge of developing a law firm website in 2019.
After a couple of revisions, our team came up with a law firm web design that combined some of the principles of a traditional looking law firm website with that of a modern looking website. We made sure all the most important information was accessible without having to scroll further down the page, while only leaving the firm’s contact information below the fold. Impresa’s new website is responsive, meaning that it looks great on a desktop, laptop, tablet, and smart phone.
